A full eternity band carries stones the whole way round, which is what gives it its symbolism and also its one practical limitation: it cannot be resized. Cutting the shank would interrupt the setting, so the size has to be right at the point of ordering, and fingers do change over a lifetime.
Setting style decides how it wears. Channel settings hold the stones between two walls of gold and sit lowest, so they snag least and suit a band worn against an engagement ring. Shared-prong settings expose more of each stone and give the brightest line. Bezel settings sit between the two. Because stones run underneath the finger as well, a band with a flatter profile is noticeably more comfortable in daily wear.
