A cushion is a square or slightly rectangular stone with rounded corners, and it behaves optically more like an antique cut than a modern one. Larger facets mean it throws broad, coloured flashes rather than the fine white scintillation of a round — often described as crushed ice when the facets are small and chunky when they are large.
