A smile necklace — sometimes called a curved bar or arc necklace — sets a line of diamonds along a gentle curve that follows the collarbone instead of hanging from a single point. Because the stones are fixed in a rigid arc rather than strung, the piece keeps its shape and stays facing forward rather than rotating as a pendant does.
That rigidity is also the fitting constraint: the curve has to suit the wearer's collarbone, so these are generally made in one or two set lengths with an adjustable chain either side. Graduated stones, largest at the centre of the arc, follow the line of the neck more naturally than a uniform row and are the more common design.
