A custom ring is the most common bespoke commission, and the sequence that works best is to settle the centre stone first, then the setting, then the band. Shape and carat weight determine the setting's proportions, so choosing a band style before the stone usually means revisiting it.
Resizing is the decision most worth getting right at the design stage rather than afterwards. Full eternity settings and twisted shanks cannot be resized without rebuilding the ring, and pavé that runs the full way around limits how much a jeweller can alter later. A plain or half-set shank leaves that option open. Stones are available as natural diamond, lab-grown diamond or moissanite in 9K to 18K gold.
